There is a sister I know who recently reverted to islam in April 2020.She is a single mother now as her christian husband left her 5 years ago.Her husband used to send her allowance to take care of herself and her son. Now that she is a Muslim she knows she cannot take money from him for her maintainence. Can she seek money from her ex-husband who is a Christian to take care of her muslim son who is just 7 year old? Is it allowed for her?

Thanks for reaching out to us with your query, we ask Allah (SWT) to provide ease in your affairs and bless you with best of health and Imaan, Ameen.
Below mentioned is our response to your query.
Alhumdulilah, as you have reverted to Islam while your ex husband is a christian. He is not obliged to support you particularly from Islamic point of view although he might choose to do so on humanitarian grounds.
As far as the child's responsibility is concerned, it's the responsibility and obligation of the biological father both Islamically and legally to support the child by providing him sufficient financial assistance required for the child's upbringing.
Jazak Allah Khair for your patience and time. Hope we have answered your question. Should you need any further clarification, you are more than welcome to schedule an appointment and meet us (in person or over zoom meetings), alternatively, you may submit your specific question in this form.
Asalam Alaikum Warahmatulahi Wabarkatuhun.
